Evening Fishings Roots

The Evening Fishing Program started in 2006 as an informal Ottawa Flyfishers Society get together on the water once a month during the fishing season, outside of the regular Society meeting months. That first season, participation was sporadic and and adversely affected by the weather.

The following season it was decided that we would expand our efforts to organize weekly fishing outing around Ottawa's urban core to:
  1. Provide regular opportunities for local flyfishers to get together on the water,
  2. Provide an friendly atmosphere where new flyfishers could learn more (techniques, pointers, flies, etc) from more experienced anglers,
  3. and to Introduce flyfishers that are new to the region, to the numerous fishing locations and opportunities by anglers that are familiar with the various beats.
Depending on the weather the evening fishing gets underway in early May and runs till late September/early October. The weekly beats are selected based on what seasons are legally open, the current water conditions, and its capability to accommodate up to a dozen anglers.

All in all, the evening fishing program is simply a great way to get out, socialize a bit and catch a few fish, all within the city limits.

Looking forward to a few new faces this season.
